A Russian national has been sentenced to seven years in a maximum-security penal colony for using cryptocurrency to financially support the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This is the first publicly known case in Russia where digital currency was used to fund a military group. The individual, an employee of a diamond mining company, transferred funds to a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to aid their reconnaissance and subversive activities against Russia. The case highlights the increasing use of cryptocurrency in geopolitical conflicts and the legal repercussions faced by individuals involved in such activities.
